Shaun Baxley

Aspire Apprentice Piano Technician - Louisville

‍ ‍Shaun Baxley has spent his career serving musicians through both performance and education. A lifelong trumpet player, Shaun earned his Bachelor of Arts in Music from Western Kentucky University and a Master of Music in Trumpet Performance from Southeastern Louisiana University before spending more than a decade teaching music in public schools. As a former elementary music teacher and orchestra director, he developed a deep appreciation for the important role well-maintained instruments play in helping students and performers succeed.

In addition to his work as an educator, Shaun proudly serves as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army Reserve with the 100th Army Band at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Performing in concert band, jazz ensemble, brass quintet, and ceremonial settings has given him extensive experience working with musicians of all ages and backgrounds and reinforced his commitment to excellence in every aspect of music.

Shaun's passion for piano technology grew from his desire to better understand the instrument behind so much of the music he taught and performed alongside. He is now a full-time Aspire Apprentice with Vanguard Piano Service, receiving hands-on training in piano tuning, regulation, repair, and maintenance under the mentorship of experienced technicians. Through daily field service and continued technical education, he is developing the skills necessary to provide dependable, high-quality care for every piano he services.

Continued Education

Shaun is committed to lifelong learning and professional development. He continues to train through Vanguard Piano Service's apprenticeship program while pursuing the knowledge and experience necessary to earn the Registered Piano Technician (RPT) credential through the Piano Technicians Guild. By combining practical field experience with ongoing technical study, he is building the foundation for a career dedicated to craftsmanship, precision, and exceptional customer service.

Whether servicing a family upright, a church piano, or an institutional instrument, Shaun enjoys helping every piano reach its full musical potential. He looks forward to building lasting relationships with clients throughout the Louisville and Southern Indiana communities while providing the attentive, professional service that defines Vanguard Piano Service.

Zach Southard has built his path into piano technology on a foundation of hands-on training and a lifelong love of music. As a performance pianist himself, Zach understands firsthand how important it is for an instrument to play and sound exactly the way a musician needs it to, an understanding that shapes his approach to every piano he services.

Since June of last year, Zach has trained multiple times a week alongside a senior technician who brings 50 years of field tuning and repair experience to the mentorship. This close, consistent apprenticeship has given him the opportunity to pair hands-on fieldwork with dedicated, one-on-one guidance as he joins Vanguard Piano Service's Aspire Apprentice program.

Continued Education

Zach is committed to building his technical knowledge through both fieldwork and formal study. He has furthered his education through the Piano Technicians Guild, including completing their Grand Action Regulation in 37 Steps course, and recently attended the PTG National Convention to continue expanding his skills alongside technicians from across the industry. Over the past year, he has tuned pianos for local piano dealers and universities, gaining practical, varied field experience with a wide range of instruments.

Whether working on a dealer's showroom piano or an instrument on a university campus, Zach brings a musician's ear and a technician's precision to every tuning. He looks forward to continuing to grow his craft and to providing the attentive, dependable service that defines Vanguard Piano Service.
